Every day you will brush, feed, saddle and ride the ponies. Ponyland’s instructors will take you for hand-led rides in the zoo’s round pen or at the Rodeo Arena. Mornings will be spent with the ponies in our shady round pen. If the weather is hot, we’ll turn on the misters and you’ll get to help wash the ponies. Wear clothing that is Ok to get wet! Afternoons will be spent in the zoo’s air conditioned classroom learning more about the ponies, playing games and doing art projects. Some afternoons, Ponyland’s miniature horses, Madison or Tonka, will visit for special one-on-one time. Kids will learn in a fun and relaxed setting about various equine topics including horse health care, feeding, transportation, equine safety, pony tack (ie saddles, bridles etc), grooming and much more. All ponies were rescued by Ponyland and brought to the Zoo from their ranch in Orangevale for this camp. Please wear closed toe/closed heel shoes, bring your bike helmet, a lunch, snack and water bottle. NOTE: Due to the ponies’ small size, max weight to ride them is 70lbs. Children who do not meet this criteria will spend extra time grooming and leading ponies.
